We have designed the Baby Evacuation Trolley to provide a practical and professional solution to the problem of evacuating babies in the event of an emergency. It allows two staff to evacuate up to six children (max. 75kg) in complete safety.
The main compartment is divided into three so that standing toddlers can be put next to new born babies lying down. Importantly evacuation of the baby room can be completed without assistance from outside staff. The trolley also maintains the babies in clean, safe and comfortable environment at the assembly point whilst the emergency is dealt with. A pocket has been provided for the register, to allow the trolley to be used as the main muster point once outside.
Developed in conjunction with Nottinghamshire Fire Service the Baby Evacuation Trolley has a steel frame and large industrial castors for durability. For extra safety it is supplied with brakes at both ends. The compartment is made in wipe clean fabrics. For immediate access and practicality it can be stored folded against a wall in the baby room, using the Velcro straps supplied.
Best practice emergency procedures require that rapid evacuation is carried out in a once only operation, with no re-entry into the building. To achieve this with the normal supervision ratio of 1:3 in a baby room requires that staff be brought in from other areas of the nursery. Once outside the nursery building, staff have the additional problem of where to put the babies to ensure they remain safe, comfortable and clean.
